This last weekend was so nice. We were in the garden and the animals are outside now except the baby ducklings.
What did you do this last weekend. Did you enjoy the beautiful weather?
My daughter took a basic fondant cake decorating class yesterday with her 4-H friends. They had a good time. Below I am posting a you tube video on how to do this and then a picture of what she made on the bottom.
Click here for Fondant video ( I don’t make money off of this video) I just thought it would be easier then writting everything out.
Have you ever decorated a cake in a class or on your own? My daughter has been decorated birthday cakes for her siblings the last 4 or 5 years.

My daughter learning to crochet hot pads. She will be taking the best ones to the county fair in the fall.

This is a cardigan that I started 3 years ago. I got upset with it. Ripped it out and decided to make it on round needles. Maybe posting it on here will motivate me to finish it.

A few weeks ago, my knitting group had a Saturday get together. They had me teach cabling. The right and left are same size cables, but twisted the opposite ways. the middle one is a one stitch zig zag.
What have you done this winter to get your creative juices flowing? Please share.
My son loves to fix things and he likes remodeling every thing when he get bored with the way things look. He designed and made the house himself when he got the dog a few years ago.
An aside, this son just told me that it is snowing. The snow stopped as fast as it started. Thankfully.
The other day I told my son to put away the wash cloths and towels. He put a few on the truck at a time and drove each of them to the closet to put away. Thing boys will do to make a job fun.
This is my sons dog. When I am doing dishes many days, this dog loves to do tricks on the swing. He, also, likes to take a ball to the top of the slide, roll it down and chase the ball.
My sons both enjoy playing with this friendly dog.
What kind of jobs do you have your kids do? Do they volunteer? Do they try to make the jobs exciting for them?

The picture is not very good, but you can still see the difference in size of a duckling and a gosling.
After a couple of hours, this kids realized that they had to change the feeders for a couple of days to egg cartons. For a few days until they get use to eating, then they can go back to the regular feeders.
Did you know that poultry can go 24 hours with out food after hatching, because the yoke in the egg is their first day of good. That is why they can be shipped. Usually on a Monday or Tuesday, so they are not in a post office over the weekend.
Next month we will be getting turkeys. Geese and turkeys are new projects for us.
What is your favorite animal? And have you ever had one of your own?
My daughter and I had a wonderful weekend one our retreat. We took a walk in the freezing cold weather in our winter coats and mittens.
We had talks given to the moms and talks given to the girls in the different age groups. We got to talk to old friends and make new friends.
We met a few people that had similar backgrounds as us. We, also, got to spend quiet time with God. One of my favorite times for a retreat.
When we got home, we found that our other cat had given birth to kittens. She has them in a deep nest, so hopefully they will be safe and grow up. Our mama cat’s are getting old and we will need replacements soon. Here is a picture of them. They are hard to see as we cannot touch them yet, they are to little.
Two dark kittens and one light colored kitten.
How did you spend your weekend. Did you have any surprises? Drop a line in the comments below.

This was our last mother daughter retreat in the fall. My daughter and I are excited for another retreat this weekend.
It is always fun to get away from things a couple of times a year. The boys will take care of the animals and we will make new friends.
Now it is time to go grocery shopping for the guys that will be left behind. They will get a turn on an other day.
Do you ever take time out for yourself? What kinds of things do you do?
Rough days are bound to happen. I try to keep things positive on this blog, but today, I am going to fill in some sad, but all the same real life on the homestead.
Many times we only read about the perfect on blogs and so sometimes it seems that people never have any problems. So here is what happened yesterday at our place.
Yesterday was not a good day for us. We get ducklings from the post office and 4 are dead. The other two died within 24 hours. We went though this a few years ago. It wouldn’t be so bad except the ducks were going to be use for fair later in the year. We will see if we can get more in the next month. If not, they will not grow big enough for fair.
Our favorite cat had kittens and when the (human) kids went outside to milk and feed the goats last night, a male cat had eaten the kittens. We just are not having luck with kittens the last couple of years. The last two years the baby kittens have been eaten by owls.
We have see the life cycle happen many times.
The house is being over run with box elder bugs and it is windy and rainy and now we need to fix the screen door.
Those people that have perfect homeschool days consistently are not tell the whole truth.
Hope you have a good day. smile.
PS. If you have any healthy ways to get rid of box elder bugs in the house, please let me know.
Hope today our day and your day goes better then yesterday. Blessed day to you all.
